Dealing with technical intern trainees

If it is difficult to return home

You can change your status of residence to “short-term stay (90 days, no work is possible)” or “Specific activities (3 months, work possible)”

If you can change your status of residence to “Specific Activities (3 months, you can work for 3 months),” you will be able to continue working in Japan for three months, but the change to “Specific Activities (3 months, work possible)” is permitted only for technical intern trainees who wish to work in the same accepting organization (company) and business.

In addition, if circumstances that cannot be returned to Japan continue, it will be possible to receive an update.

If you are unable to take an examination to move to the next stage

It is possible to change the status of residence to “specific activities (4 months, work possible)” until the examination and transfer can be done.

However, only technical intern trainees who wish to work in the same accepting institution (company) or business are allowed to change the status of residence to a specific activity.

If you are not ready to move to “Specific Skill No. 1”

It is possible to change to “Technical Intern Training No. 3” under excellent supervising organizations or trainees.

Support for those who have “short-term stay” or other status of residence

Foreign nationals who are staying in Japan under the status of residence of “short-term stay” and foreign nationals who are staying with other status of residence were also allowed to renew to “90 days of short-term stay”.

Dealing with foreigners who have been laid off and are unable to continue working

In order to maintain the employment of technical intern trainees, specific skilled foreigners, etc. who have been laid off due to the effects of the new Coronavirus infection, the Immigration and Resident Administration agency will provide support for re-employment in specific industrial fields, grant “specific activities” under certain requirements, and provide support to maintain employment for foreigners in Japan.
