About medical insurance

Medical insurance

If you go to a hospital or clinic for treatment, you may have unexpected high medical expenses.

For example, it may cost about 5,000 yen to see a doctor once with a mild cold, tens of thousands of yen for treatment of a cavity, and nearly 10,000 to 50,000 yen for a disease test.

In addition, if you are hospitalized for one week with appendicitis, it will cost 200,000 yen, and if you are hospitalized for more than a month due to serious illness or injury, it may cost nearly one million yen a month, which is a big financial burden.
For this reason, Japan has a medical insurance system to reduce the burden of medical expenses, and the national government, local governments, offices, and individuals are supposed to share medical expenses.

And not only all citizens, but also all foreigners who stay in Japan (regardless of their period of stay) must join.
Many international students will be enrolled in the National Health Insurance. You don’t have to join because you don’t get sick, and you don’t have any money, so you won’t be allowed to join, so be sure to join.
